Site/line: IADT, St. Angela's
IADT Dun Laoghaire and St. Angela's College Sligo suffered separate outages
on their BT circuits overnight. IADT was down briefly at 01:07 and again
from 05:24 until 07:32. St. Angela's was down from 00:24 until 02:40 and
from 05:18 until 06:25.
Each institution was disconnected during the period described above. An
Cheim service for IADT failed over to an alternative operator for the
20080525 09:50 DW Called BT requesting an alarm check, their reference
number 1-583967262. They indicated that it was very likely due to some
planned engineering works (one by Irish Rail, one by BT itself) that
turned out to be disruptive, but am expecting a call back to confirm this.
20080527 17:34 DW BT confirm that Irish Rail work alongside BT fibre
caused an accidental cut, but are still investigating the exact cause of
the above outages. Expecting a call back tomorrow.
20080528 12:01 DW BT confirm that the cause of the IADT outage was twofold
- Irish Rail work on the Sallins-Heuston line which accidentally cut BT
fibre at 1:07, causing the brief outage while the protected path kicked
in, and further BT planned engineering work which caused the metro node on
the protected path to fail from 05:21. Still awaiting explanation for the
outages that affected St. Angela's.
20080528 12:54 DW After checking back with Engineer, BT confirm that IADT
were affected by BT PEW, and St. Angela's were affected by the Irish Rail
work which caused problems on the ring. Closing ticket.
