University of Limerick currently connects to the HEAnet network via a
single connection. To increase resilience this connection will be
repatched and reconfigured so that two logical circuits will connect UL to
the new HEAnet core routers.
Since cabling changes are required, general IP connectivity from/to UL will
be affected. The changes and testing have been scheduled for 08:00-08:30
on the 30th April to minimise any disruption.
Connectivity between UL and its remote sites (e.g. the outreach centre)
will not be affected by the work.
After completion of the work UL will have two logical circuits to HEAnet,
landing on our CRS-1 Citywest and Kilcarbery core routers. BGP will be
used on each of these two circuits. The BGP peering which is currently for
uplink connectivity by UL terminates on an HEAnet access router which will
soon be retired; this old peering will be removed as part of the work.
20080429 17:19 PC - Opening ticket to track the work.
20080430 08:51 PC - The re-cabling was performed and both of the new IP
circuits are up. Connectivity was restored via the Kilcarbery circuit at
8:58, later than planned due to version dependent syntax errors in the
Juniper configuration we provided to UL staff.
The Citywest BGP session is not yet up, although the underlying circuit it
fine. Work is continuing to resolve this.
20080430 09:24 PC - The Citywest BGP session was brought up at 09:17 and
traffic is now flowing over that circuit. Both circuits appear to be fine
but will keep ticket open for 24 hours.
