As some of you may be aware from earlier posts, I am conducting research
into editors (the programs, not the people!), as part of my PhD on the
usability of editing software for structured documents. Some of the
interim findings were given in my paper to the Extreme Markup Conference
in Montréal in 2006 (http://epu.ucc.ie/articles/extreme06).
Among the key components are the experiences of users -- the authors and
editors (the people this time, not the programs!) who use this kind of
software to write and maintain documents. This survey asks specific
questions about the features and behaviour of editing software that you use.
If you write or edit structured documents, I would be grateful if you
could spare the time (about 15 mins) to fill in the survey at:
The survey is anonymous, but you can leave your email address if you
would like a copy of the final results (addresses will be deleted
afterwards in compliance with the terms of the Data Protection Acts 1998
and 2003). Please contact me if you have any problems [peter.flynn (at)
