Hello Gil or K, whichever you prefer
I had an ancestor hung in Virginia for cattle
rustling, which I think was an unfortunate cultural
misunderstanding. (said tongue in cheek) The settlers
there *obviously* failed to appreciate his attempt to
complete the all important ancient Irish coming of age
ritual for a young man- that of raiding cattle, so he
can increase his wealth, and thus his social status
and become a man. Instead, they made a criminal of
him, and sadly, hung him from the neck until dead.
lol. True story.
Could the perception of cattle raiding as good or bad
be a cultural thing? Or, maybe it depends on if it is
your cattle which are being raided or not. lol.
