THE FIRST BRANTRY FLEADH
On Saturday 11th August, Brantry Comhaltas, in conjunction with Return of
the Earls Initiative, will host "The Brantry Fleadh" at the Brantry Bard
Cultural Centre, Eglish, near Aughnacloy, in Co Tyrone. This very
significant event will focus on Traditional Music Workshops during the day
and these will be followed by hugely varied and enjoyable sessions, lasting
no doubt into the wee small hours. On Sunday 12th sessions will also be held
throughout the day and evening. All musicians and followers of the music are
warmly welcome on both days.
The Saturday Workshops which will begin at 11.00am and last for approx 5
hours, are especially intended for musicians with some experience and who
wish to improve on technique and style, as well as learning some great new
tunes. This will be particularly useful to young people who are attenders at
Fleadhanna throughout the country.
Workshops will be taken by some of Ireland's most respected players
and teachers of their particular instruments: Brian Finnegan from Armagh on
Flute and Tin Whistle; Brid Harper Rafferty from Donegal/Tyrone on Fiddle;
Enda Scahill from Galway on Banjo and Mandolin and John Regan from
Sligo/Dublin on Button Accordion.
These are household names everywhere that Traditional Music is played
and the Brantry Fleadh offers a unique opportunity to avail of their talents
in the welcoming and relaxed atmosphere of the Bard Cultural Centre, where a
cup of tea is never far away!
Following on from the Workshops, the tutors, along with other guest
musicians, will perform in a special concert from 8.00-10.00pm. This will be
followed by the full-scale session into the wee small hours of Sunday
Student numbers for the Workshops will be limited, so anyone wishing to
