As part of essential maintenance, HEAnet will be upgrading the software on
our second access router in citywest between 07:30 and 08:00 on the
morning of Wednesday 13th June (n.b. this had previously scheduled to
occur on the 6th).
During this half hour period the work will:
- affect IPv6 traffic for UCD and DIT
- cause traffic for IT Tallaght, Tralee, Carlow, Athlone and IADT to be
- reduce link resilience for the ITnet sites mentioned above and also
Between 07:30 and 08:00 on 13th June :
- IPv6 service outage for DIT and UCD.
- Traffic for the following ITnet sites will reroute over the cork ITnet
link: IT Tallght, IT Tralee, IT Carlow, IT Athlone and IADT. Link
resilience will also be reduced for these sites.
- Link resilience for RCSI will be reduced the RCSI primary link will be

20070606 08:22 PC - Due to time constraints, the upgrade of this router
was not carried as planned this morning and will be rescheduled.
20070607 16:19 PC - This work has now been rescheduled to occur on the
20070613 08:02 PC - Router software upgrade was completed at 07:36. Will
continue to monitor for 24 hours.
20070613 12:20 PC - Since the router was upgraded, IPv6 iBGP sessions have
shown some instability. This has not affected customer traffic and the
cause is being investigated.
20070613 14:09 PC - CPU increased significantly on this router immediately
following an IPv6 BGP session reset at 13:54. CPU has remained very high
and so the router will now be rolled back to the previous ios version.
20070613 14:35 PC - Before the rollback could be started the router became
unresponsive. Manual intervention was necessary to restore functionality
before the ios could be changed back to the previous release.
