Hi to all of Luc's other friends.
Yes I am very interested in doing some good work in this field and can help facilitate some better communication via phone. However, although reasonably IT literate I find phones a challenge. Here is a proposal. I have permission from my department to use the telephone system in support of my PhD project which I think is covered in Luc's introduction. The up side of this is I can call out to anywhere in the world for 9 cents (Aust) for any time period. Don't ask me how they do it, but a deal was done across the whole state government with the Telco. So, for 9 cents (x4) I can ring your numbers and, if all goes well, organise a party link up via my place of work. 45 cents every now and then is not going to hurt the tax payers and I can justify as part of our aboriginal economic development unit efforts. The down side is: (a) time when I'm here in my office and how that compares to you respective time zones, and (b) I have as yet no idea how to do it tech wise. But I am starting with Luc today I think so I can progress from there.
I also have other ideas in this communication issue but must leave it to later to discuss.
Perhaps the first step if you agree is to email me your preferred telephone number that I can call you on during the hours of ... Let's say 10:00 am to 6:00pm local time ... Although I can be flexible also. LST here in Perth Western Australia is GMT +6 I think ... Similar to Singapore, Hong Kong etc.
Also with kind regards,

Dear Russell, dear John, dear Jan, dear Ralf
Let us start to connect. Russel, you are interested and even willing to involve yourself for a way towards sustainable development for the aboriginals in West Australia. I know you through John Clarke, who is now involved in Sustain the Wild Coast, an association fighting for the sustainable development of the people of the South African Wild Coast. A region which has marvellous opportunities for eco-tourism and is threatened by big mining schemes and toll road building for the mining. Jan, you are involved in the South-South International Knowledge Network for Sustainable Development and on your council I started about 3 weeks ago a Wikispace cybernetics-society as a consequence of the Sankt Gallen Metaphorum Conference beginning March. John, Russell and myself are member of the metaphorum group. I got connected to the Metaphorum group through John. I hope Jan that you also belong to the group now, after the Sankt Gallen conference.
The ideas of Stafford Beer about viability, which also means sustainability and resilience are important for work on sustainable development. Small scale work and recursivity are essential aspects of the VSM. I try to organize the Wikispace based on the VSM
approach: self-organizing and developing. Jan gave me the original idea, Russell has invested lots of hours in the Wikispace.
I thought that it was possible to prepare a virtual syntegration. The reactions until now from previous experiences is that syntegrations show their real worth in the face to face event. Both you, John and Russell, are living and working in a "real" environment where issues of sustainable development are at stake.
I ask John and Russell and you, Jan, if you are interested to invest some time to connect together and to help each other to bridge the gap between knowing and doing using the cybernetics-society wikispace, or any other relevant tool to come to local face to face syntegrations of all stakeholders and their representatives working on what the VSM can provide as relevant framework to achieve these development goals.
Here, I refer to you Ralf, who are already trying to apply the VSM principles in community development work in Mozambique and Namibia.
Although you are only indirectly related to the fieldwork, your ecperience can be invaluable. I am very impressed how you develop viability diagnostic tools in those projects.
We are 5 persons. If each one of us can connect to 5 other relevant persons who want to be involved in an action research which may lead to 2 local syntegrations and their follow-up we form a virtual infoset, which may start to experiment with virtual participatory and mobilizing schemes.
