Does any one have any references about the
development of the 'augment' (to use McCone's term for
'ro' and other semantically related preverbs) in the
transition between Old Irish and Middle Irish? I'm
currently writing a paper about the end of aspectual
contrasts in Irish. That is, the shift from a
'perfect' interpretation of verbs with the preverb
'ro' to a non-perfect, simple past interpretation.
Right now, I only have McCone and a few other
generative accounts of language change...but any other
advice would be really appreciated.
