A Research Associate post is available immediately to develop means of
assessing risks and monitoring water quality in the marine environment. The
post is available for two years, with the possibility of a permanent
appointment with RPS Group plc. The project will involve developing models
for objective risk assessment and tools for monitoring water quality based
on marine macroalgae and invertebrates. Both areas relate to the priorities
established by the Water Framework Directive and will use case studies in
Northern Ireland. Work will include developing databases, extensive use of
GIS and development of numerical/analytical models with some opportunities
for field work in the area of marine water quality as a means of verifying
the developed tools.
The post is supported by a Knowledge Transfer Partnership between RPS
Ireland Ltd. and Quercus, Northern Ireland's Research Centre for
Biodiversity and Conservation Biology based at Queen's University, Belfast.
Candidates must hold a 2.1 or higher Hons. degree in marine biology, ecology
or related subject. A PhD/MSc. in marine ecology, experience of GIS and an
ability to lead numerical and analytical research are desirable. A full
driving licence, or some other suitable means of private transport is

Salary: circa £ 20,000 per annum according to experience and qualifications.
