The following position will soon become available at Biosecurity New Zealand.

Senior Adviser, Risk Analysis, (Marine)
MAF Biosecurity New Zealand
Location: Wellington

Applications close 5:00pm Friday 4th March 2005.

Help protect our marine environment from invasive species!!

The recent establishment of Biosecurity New Zealand (BNZ) in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) incorporates Marine Biosecurity delivery into a single agency. The marine environment is a new focus for MAF, and this position provides a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the shape of marine biosecurity delivery in New Zealand.

The risk analysis team at BNZ are searching for a well qualified (PhD level) person with risk assessment skills to lead projects in identifying and evaluating the likelihood and magnitude of marine biosecurity risks and opportunities.

To do this you will need knowledge and experience in invasive species ecology, invasion biology, and knowledge of risk assessment coupled with an ability to work independently to undertake analysis, develop options, and recommendations.

Other key aspects of the role include:

*	Undertake liaison, consultation and advocacy with other agencies
*	Input into design and development of marine biosecurity databases
*	Represent NZ at international introduced species fora
*	Provide technical advice for statutory decisions under the Biosecurity Act and other related legislation

As well as having the self-confidence and inter-personal skills to achieve at all of the above you will need to be able to withstand the pressure of tight deadlines and be willing to provide both analytical leadership, and support to other marine biosecurity staff. Experience in GIS systems would be an advantage.
