SATALLA

Wednesday, December 8 at 9:30 pm
Cormac Breatnach
Admission is $12
Born in Dublin and brought up in an Irish and Spanish-speaking
household, virtuoso whistle player Cormac Breatnach has been playing
whistles and the timber flute for over twenty years now.  He has
recorded extensively with musicians such as Donal Lunny, Maire
Breatnach, Steve Cooney and songwriters such as Tom Moore, Sonny
Condell, Pierce Turner, Elvis Costello and Maighread Ni Dhomhnaill to
name but a few.

Sunday, December 19 at 7:30 pm
Áine Minogue Christmas Show
Admission is $15 adults/$10 kids
As traditional Irish music and dance continue to enjoy phenomenal
success both in Ireland and abroad, harpist Áine Minogue is an artist
who has long explored its themes and who captures its very essence.
Her voice reflects the lyricism and richness to be found in Irish
music, mythology and poetry with a voice undeniably her own and a
diverse group of instruments that add to the traditional flavor of her
work.  Born in Borrisokane, County Tipperary, Áine's large musical
family encouraged her to pursue a number of different instruments
during her youth (which explains her obvious skill at arranging) until
she discovered her true love-the harp.

Friday, January 14 at 7:30 PM
Paddy Keenan
Admission is $15 in advance/$18 at the door
Generally acknowledged as the most accomplished and innovative
Uilleann piper performing today, Paddy Keenan is among the most
brilliant musicians of his generation.  Paddy was born in Trim, Co.
Meath in 1948 into the Pavee clan, an Irish "traveling" family.  His
father and grandfather, both travelers, were also well known musicians
and steeped in the traditional music.  They played the Uilleann pipes
and passed down directly to Paddy this rich legacy of the traveling
pipers.  This Pavee, or Irish Gypsy upbringing, is what gave Paddy his
fiery, unfettered and improvisational style.  His flowing,
open-fingered style of playing is often compared to the legendary
Johnny Doran.

Satalla is at 37 West 26th Street between Sixth Avenue and Broadway
Phone 212.576.1155. Visit www.satalla.com

APE COD CEILI WEEKEND JANUARY 28/30, 2005

Anyone interested in set dancing, great music, good fun, and generally
keeping out of the cold should note that our very own Northeast Ceili
Band has been invited by Jack Hynes of the Irish Village to host the
first annual Cape Cod Ceili Weekend, which will take place on January
28-30, 2005. In addition to dancing opportunities, there will be other
entertainment (including a Saturday afternoon session), shopping
availability, etc. (plus of course the chance to visit our beautiful
peninsula without zillions of tourists - God bless them - around).

Price per person will be $129.00, which includes: 2 nights lodging (3rd
free), two dinners, Saturday breakfast, Sunday brunch (plus three
ceilidh and a session). As New Yorkers would say, "Such a deal!"

CELTIC MUSIC ON LONG ISLAND

The Long Island Traditional Music Association (LITMA) presents Laura
Risk and Paddy League in concert on Saturday, January 15, 2005, at 8 pm
at the WESTBURY FRIENDS MEETING. There will also be an Intermediate
Quebec Fiddle Tune Workshop 1-3 pm ($20) (Other players are welcome to
attend, however the instruction will be geared to the fiddlers) and a
Beginning Bodhran Workshop 1-3 pm ($20), and a LITMA Orchestra workshop
3:30-5:30 pm (Musicians who attended the earlier workshops who want to
stay and listen are welcome). Advanced workshop reservations are highly
recommended, as seating may be limited

A Potluck Dinner will be held from 6-7:30 pm, with local musician
entertainment. This would require an advanced potluck dinner/ concert
ticket purchase of a $20 + potluck dish to share. Preferential seating
to those purchasing the dinner/concert combo. Regular concert seating
available at $15 for LITMA members and $20 for non-members. Advanced
seat purchase will get closer seating than tickets sold at the gate.
Students 16 and under accompanied by an adult may attend the concert
for $10 and get a $5 discount on the workshop. This concert/workshop is
due to a joint effort of the Cameron Scottish Ensemble and LITMA. The
Cameron Ensemble will be hosting a Scottish country dance featuring
Laura Risk and Paddy League on Friday January 14th and a Scottish
fiddle workshop with Laura on Sunday January 16. For more information
