Jeff - I'm yer man!
I can give you a GPS ref using WGS84 datum on OSGB Grid for all the decent
pubs and sessions in Norfolk and Suffolk in England!!!
Seriously though I'm a MLTB mountain Leader with extensive experience of
using both handheld GPSr (I use a SILVA MultiNavigator (BRUNTON brand in USA))
I also use a NAVMAN PiN (SiRF Star II GPSr) using Navman SmartST Pro software
for "turn-by-turn" road navigation.
I have used both in Europe with no problems.
I assume you will be looking for relevant base-maps etc etc?
