Apologies for cross posting
Next month brings both the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and
Numbers (ICANN) and numerous blind societies including the World Blind
Union (WBU) to Cape Town for their global meetings. The Internet
Society (South Africa chapter - ISOC-ZA) recognized that as a result of
these events, a wealth of experts in many fields will be converging on
Cape Town. ISOC-ZA are capitalizing on this opportunity and in
conjunction with ICANN and the World Blind Union are finalizing the
programme for a workshop/public forum on the topic of Internet
standards development and the blind or seeing impaired.
The timing of the forum is immediately after the final board meeting of
ICANN and the day before the opening of the WBU general assembly.
Date: Sunday December 5, 2004
Venue: Cape Town International Convention Centre - Main Auditorium
The proposed public forum is to gather information about how the
Internet is being used by the blind and seeing impaired, and to obtain
any comments and submissions on how new standards may be developed to
improve any current issues or problems.
The forum will be made up of a small panel of experts that will briefly
present the current position and initiate discussion. We are calling
for participants and panelists and kindly request that you forward this
announcement to anyone you feel will be interested.
