I wrote,

and, David replied,

Because I was trying to force 'lebarda' to be a noun in the plural.
Therefore, I thought that the author had declined 'lebor' like the other
Latin loan word 'míl' to give an accusitive plural 'lebarda'. Another
case of my being hidebound by English grammer, I should have read
GOI p. 221, on the formation of adjectives.
