I wasn't aware of that background of the term. I just knew it referred
to full-sized numerals in contrast to OS figures. Indeed, I never used
the term 'hanging figure' either until I heard it here on this list.
BTW, reviving a subject from long ago, I firmly believe all figures
should be the same width (i.e., no narrow "1"), and hence they should
all align, i.e., be lining figures.
