Pardon me Michael, but your dictatorial streak is showing.
Has all this discussion of Kaos reminded you of a childhood antipathy to
For my part, I firmly believe that all typefaces should have figures
which suit the typeface (if they have figures at all) and the intended
uses of the font---while I have a predeliction for those typefaces which
provide multiple styles of figures (my current font project has cap
height, 3/4 height and two different styles of old-style figures, with
each available in proportional and monospace variants), and w/ OpenType
and ATSUI there's no reason not to have multiple versions, mandating
that such should or shouldn't exist is a bit extreme.
There's a nice discussion of this sort of thing in Sivan Toledo's
article on rich fonts for TUGboat a couple of years back (which to my
shame I d/l'd a rough draft of a couple of years ago and didn't read
until just the other week---drat Mac OS X not having Display
for those who're curious)
