Problems at Abilene and GEANT prevented access to Internet2
and some European academic sites (DE, CZ).
Traffic from HEAnet to some US & European academic sites.
Internet2 problems are resolved, some instabilities remain on
GEANT router and where necessary traffic is rerouting via Internet2.
20020806 1500 Asymetric paths between ourselves and abilene, return path via geant, packets being droped on ie1.ie.geant.net, geant noc are investigating.
Abilene are going to adjust their local prefs to fix asymetric flow.

This problem is due to coincidence of two separate issues -
asymmetric routing at Abilene and failure of a GEANT router to
forward packetes. GEANT have implenented a workaround by forwarding
our traffic through France and all sites are now reachable. Ticket
remains open while Abilene investigate asymmetric routing and
GEANT work on a permanent fix.

Abilene have made the necessary changes to their routing policy.
GEANT are following up problems with their IE router with Cisco,
including an outage from 21:55 to 22:45 - traffic rerouted via
20020807 11:38 CW Geant hae resolved issues with ie1.ie router, later this afternoon we will back out the routing changes made by geant last night and will see if problems reoccour
20020807 1500 CW routing changes no longer in use, all sites reachable
