Oboe/bassoon gouging machines run up to $2,000 US and according to
bassoonist Michael O'Donovan who has adapted one for making u.p.
slips, they don't suit the widest reeds.
There are various ways of making gouging and profiling jigs that
some Highland reed makers use. I'm working on a couple myself
at the moment.
