The consensus seems to be leave well enough alone vis-a-vis the reed so
that's what I'm going to do. You guys have the experience.
Thank you, Bruce Childress, for a photo of yourself playing the pipes, as
well as for fine photos of your various types of sets. I managed to figure
out what fits where and assembled the thing from the various pieces of
tubing and leather in the cardboard box. I also figured out that it must
look like an instrument of medieval torture. I've never before owned a
musical instrument into which I had to STRAP myself with a set of leather
belts. It feels weird. I was almost waiting for a guy with a hood to walk
in and ask "Kenneth, are you ready to confess and save your soul or do you
want me to tighten the belt again?"
The weirdest part is that when I inflated the bag and pressed down, out came
notes. MUSICAL SOUNDS. Yes, a bit like a dying duck but at least I'm now
encouraged to run down the hall, re-strap myself into the device, pop the
tape in the video, and see what Gay McKeon has to say about all this....
By the way. Thank you all for putting up with me and my bitching. The
maker, by the way, happens to be Charles Roberts. My complaint should have
been with my own impatience, not with his handiwork and the delays that I
gather are common with this business. February to the end of May is not all
that long to wait.
Now you'll just have to endure my questions about technique....

meant to make us discover those other conditions within ourselves, love,
belief in love, to which forgiveness itself is incidental..."--C. K.
