 The second edition of the Northeast Algal Society's (NEAS) publication on
seaweeds of the northwestern North Atlantic is now available:  NEAS KEYS TO
THE BENTHIC MARINE ALGAE OF THE NORTHEASTERN COAST OF NORTH AMERICA FROM
LONG ISLAND SOUND TO THE STRAIT OF BELLE ISLE   Sears, James R. and 14
Contributors,2002.  Corrections, revisions and additions, have been made in
this second edition, along with 5 new color plates of 62 photographs of
microscopic, habit and habitat views of marine algae.  The NEAS Keys
provide the most up-to-date and comprehensive treatment of marine algae
from the northwestern North Atlantic available.  The 174 page publication
includes comprehensive genus and species identification keys to all taxa
from New York to northern Newfoundland, a complete species list (376
species, 196 genera), geographic distribution of each species; list of name
changes, a taxonomic synopsis, color photographs, literature citations, and
7 essays on marine algae including topics on preparation for molecular or
microscopic study, economic importance, geographic distribution,
non-indigenous seaweeds and others.
