Here in the Cincinnati, Ohio, USA area, we have a few trained
set dancers and a number of competitive step dancers. We always have
a large number of those who have rarely, or never, done Irish dance.
They seem very willing to learn what they can. At our typical céilís,
held at best quarterly, we walk people through the figures of the
dance then dance it. A few dances are done by the experienced dancers
only, to show how it is done, but they actually have their own
workouts elsewhere. The new people seem to learn a bit, and many show
up at later dances.
I suspect this is typical for areas where the dance community
is small and wants to recruit. We have had no need to institute a no
