Beatha agus Sláinte,
I would like to invite you to visit the following website, where I have
posted portions of my doctoral thesis entitled "Beyond the Commons: The
Expansion of the Irish Music Rights Organisation, The Elimination of
Uncertainty, and the Politics of Enclosure."
All chapters should be up there by this evening. Any and all comments are gratefully received. I will shortly be adding resource pages to what is there.
There will also be hard copies available in the library of the University of Limerick, and in the Traditional Music Archive in Dublin. I am hoping to do a small print run in the near future. This year in Washington will be spent adding chapters for a book publication, which I would hope to have ready sometime in 2004. Any articles that I publish relating to all this stuff will also be posted on the web if I can get permission from the publishers.
Also, the proceedings of the 1999 UNESCO/Smithsonian World Conference held in Washington DC, "A Global Assessment of the 1989 Recommendation for the Safeguarding of Traditional Culture and Folklore: Local Empowerment and International Cooperation," can be found at
There is also a print copy of the proceedings in the ITM Archive.
Thanks to all those people who helped me along the way, and to all who took time to discuss the thesis issues with me.
All the best,
Beir bua agus beannacht,
