If you have BBEdit 6 (Macintosh) and have it check the syntax, it
will tell you if you have error that don't conform to your specified
XHTML strict, for example:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
Not so 'automatically', but HTMLtidy is not an option for non-win users.
