> Does the manual cover doing this?
It's been a while since I've read it, but I think the FL manual
covers most of the bases. It's fairly detailed where it matters,
though there are (as always) undocumented features and quirks that
need further explanation. The FontLab forum on the MSN Communities
site is a good place for getting up to speed. If you have a fair
understanding of how fonts work, as you obviously do, I doubt you'd
have much trouble. Why not download the manual, and the FL demo for
that matter, and take a peek?

Compared to FOG, FL's hinting interface is marvelously easy to use.
FL's autohinting is very good and, coupled with the real-time
preview (through ATM or the system TT rasteriser), really is
WYSIWYG. There's not really much learning to do unless you want to
do high quality TT delta hinting. And even there FL makes it as easy
as it can be. Here, the FL manual is well supplemented by the VTT
documentation on the MS site.
