Here in the UK, the queen has got progessively older on the coins (
http://www.royalmint.com/talk/changingface.asp ) but has stayed eternally youthful on
the postage stamps.  I'm sure there's a moral there.

I started reading S. H. Steinberg's /Five Hundred Years of Printing/ yesterday.
Lovely comment by Beatrice Warde that 'the children [of ca 1955], as they grow to
maturity, will become increasingly familiar with such phrases as 'the year 2000',
'the Third Millennium'.  The mysterious power that is in round numbers will impel
them to look with fresher, more far-sighted eyes upon those thousand years that will
have passed in some night before they are sixty.'  Oh yeah, there's just been an
explosion of far-sightedness...
