Sometimes for bad reasons, but in the case of Armenian, Mesrob
simply wanted the common folk (who of course didn't know Latin,
Greek or Hebrew) to be able to read the bible.

Ionia) as a gimmick of sorts: to replace bartering
with something that could be taxed more easily!
