I just saw the Faux Arabic script featured on MyFonts.com and it reminded me
of something I've always wondered about.
There have long been Western typefaces (such as that one) that imitate
foreign alphabets or scripts. Has anyone ever seen any examples of the
reverse, that is, a Cyrillic, Arabic, Chinese, (whatever) font meant to look
like roman letterforms?
I saw a presentation some years ago showing how Japanese designers sometimes
use western typography in a decorative way, not to be read but to lend a
western cachet (sometimes with unintended humorous effect when seen by
westerners). But I've never seen imitation western scripts making me wonder
if it's ever done.
