Desi Wilkinson who plays with Cran made a solo recording years ago and has
recorded two or three times with Cran. His playing may suit your
tastes. Also Conal O'Grada may fit the bill (Top of the Coom). There are
so many new players and recordings out there now it is tough to keep track
of them all. It seems as if the world was filled with closet players who
are now just comming out!!

Although I'm not quite sure of the adjectives, it might be described as sparsely ornamented, breathy, punctuated, highly rhythmical (not that there is much out there without rhythm). I read somewhere (though I may very well be wrong) that it is associated with Leitrim/Roscommon. John McKenna is in this genre. I also have CD's from a few players from Belfast that are - loosely perhaps - in this style.
