Software AG has a product called TAMINO.

Besides being a native XML database, it can also be used to
query/update/store/delete etc. relational databases. The output of such
query is always valid XML. The used 'query language' is XPath plus some
additional features.

E.g. you fire of an XPath 'expression' and you get back a Valid XML document
containing data from records from in relational database.

See http://www.softwareag.com/taminoplatform for more info ...

Wim

Hello,

I am interested in investigating XML database "front-ends" for relational
databases. Where in queries could be posed to the database (e.g. SELECT or
UPDATE etc. - in the SQL world) OR alternately an engine which could convert
XML information into SQL. I know that XMLQuery is becoming a standard. But
I don't know about decent implementations or where would be a good start.

thank you for any help in pointing me in the correct direction.
Kevin
