I remember now discussing this with a friend who is writing a book on
homosexuality in Welsh literature from the earliest times. He mentioned that
Mary Condren (in _The Serpent and the Goddess_ I think), says there is
evidence that male homosexuality was practised in pagan Celtic rituals. But
he thought that her references didn't really lead to any evidence as such,
rather a suggestion that the bard-king relationship may have been expressed
in a ritual physical way as the bards talked of themselves in terms of the
king's wife. He thought she went a bit further than her evidence allowed.
