You'll be familiar with the term Sacs-Béarla "Saxon-language" and
with its modern, shortened version Béarla, used for the English
language in Irish. Now I came across an older term for that tongue.
In Sanas Cormaic, the glossary of Cormac úa Cuilennáin, king-bishop
of Caisel, we find in item 812 "anglis" given as origin of the word
The same author, BTW, frequently uses combrecc for "Welsh".
