I am new to XML and have been charged with defining and implementing an XML interface to a product that handles creditability of a person (major simplification here). I need to define the XML format (and supporting pieces) that the data must be handed in as. Then once the XML file is received, I need to pull that data out, put it into our objects and doe the logic inside our application to decide what to do with the person applying, then respond in some format (perhaps XML also) to the sender.
From all the reading I did last night I think I can make up my own elements, define a DTD that specifies what these elements mean, get this DTD published somewhere or set in a known local place, then point a browser to the XML and DTD for reading. My questions are:
1. Is there anyone who has done credit applications type data in XML? I have searched many repositories and can find no DTDs/ schemas that do this.
2. Do most people publish their DTD or are these really kept proprietary?
3. Should I be writing a parser to pull my data or how do I get the data from the XML into a format I need - say for inputting into a database?
Thanks for your insight!
