I rarely post here, but read regularly as we are just adopting the use of
XML here at the Florida Legislature. I appreciate all of the well informed
correspondents that contribute.
I have a question for you. We are developing some new applications in Lotus
Notes (R5) and we have a need to export information from a Notes database
and then integrate that information into some of the published documents
that are required of the Legislature. We had been led to believe by IBM
that there was a convenient way to produce a tagged document from a Notes
database, but now that it comes time to do it, they say that this capability
is not built into the product.
So I turn to the knowledge experts here. What we're looking for is a way to
extract records from a Notes database, and convert each record into a
serialized tagged document that we can then add into a marked up composite
document for production. This shop is quite adept at handling SGML, so the
synthesis process we well understand, but extracting the data is turning out
to be a problem.
Does anyone here know of tools, techniques or sources of information where I
might go to obtain a solution for this problem? We could write a Notes
agent to do the production, but I was hoping that there might be a more
canned solution out there.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for whatever help you may be able to provide
