>>: I don't agree that calling oneself a Celt automatically equates with
it being a political statement. Surely it can be if that's what the
individual wants it to be (at least in part) and they feel that strongly
about it. But as you've implied and with which I agree; it being a
political statement is more a reaction to english dominance and the desire
for some to disaffect themselves from the English.<<
The personal is politicaI: you can make a political statement without being
aware of it. To go to work whilst others are out on strike is to make just
as loud a political statement as those on the picket line, even if that
person claims neutrality.
>>I just don't agree that it has to be a part of the equation for all who
call themselevs Celts. Perhaps you didn't mean that either and I will give
the benefit of a doubt unless you say it *is* what you meant.<<
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who claims to be a Celt and
yet feels that their Celtic culture can exist independently from the
political sphere *or* who believes there is no need for a political stance
to be taken in support of their culture - such a person would be missing a
fundamental characteristic oft attributed to the Celt. Isn't that why we
make such good politicians/warriors etc?

Well the orignal question I posed seemed to to have provoced an intresting
reaction. Ok so I am English, but i t's not my fault the Cooks came down
from Scotland and settled in Whitby, nor is the rest of my family history my
Saying that I beleave that while I may be Anglo Saxion now, I am a celt by
desent, there is no denighing my liniage origen. This is not a political
statment more a heratage thing.
Why should I be ashamed of being English, I spend alot of my time reserching
the past, but looking at the past as it was seen at the time and not by
todays standerds. Comparing the past by todays standereds can couse
problems and helps people retain prejadist that thay may not other wise
I'm not saying that things that happened in the past can be ignoured, just
understood, I have been looking at Welsh history for years, not to make out
any one side was right or wrong, but to try and see the whole picture, yes
at times it has been painfull, but I can see todays problems in a better
light beaouse of it.
I'm sorry about my spelling, but my dyslexia has got worse becoaus of the
cold I have.
