>You're going to love this! Hockday is an old English festival held on the
>second Tuesday after Easter Sunday. One of the chief customs is the seizing
>and binding of men by women until they give money to be set free.
>There is a down side for you ladies, though. Hock Monday is when the fellas
>did the same thing to the ladies. Both days are together known as Hocktide.
A recent (I mean, until the early-middle part of the last century) version of this was tying the victim to a chair, turning them upside down and lifting them up three times to shake all the money out of their pockets. Women in general found the days more profitable than the men, but I forget why - perhaps men like being tied up more than women?
