So sorry to be picky. It's such a great quote I thought it ought to be
attritubed to the right person, but I don't intend to be the quotation
And, yes, I think Churchill's mother's name was Jennie and she was
American. I read a 2 volume biography titled Jennie about 20 years ago,
and most of the details escape me. But, I think she was American and it
was important in that so many English aristocrats were allegedly snots
about Edward VIII wanting to marry an American AND a divorced one at that
when it wasn't that uncommon for the upper crust gents to have married rich
American women. Not that they were divorced.... The famous Gloria
Vanberbilt's mother (also Gloria) had a sister named Thelma (Telma) who
married a Lord somebody and she was Edward's mistress until Wallis snuck in
while Thelma was in the US during the custody battle over Little Gloria.
Anyway, sorry to have gotten off on this tangent. It's probably not worth
any more space on L.
