 INTERNATIONAL CENTRE OF INSECT PHYSIOLOGY AND ECOLOGY (ICIPE)

General:
ICIPE is an intergovernmental organisation funded by governmental agencies,
UN organisations and private foundations to carry out research and training
into the environmentally sound and sustainable management of arthropods for
improving health and agricultural productivity in the tropics.  ICIPE has
over 300 staff to support its research and capacity building programmes in
the management of medical, animal and plant disease vectors, plant pests,
and in the conservation and utilisation of arthropod biodiversity.  Although
many of ICIPE's present activities are Africa centred, the organisation
intends to broader its pan-tropical base by greater collaboration in Asia
and Latin America.

Network   Administrator

****************************
The position:
ICIPE is seeking to fill the position of Network Administrator.  Reporting
to the Head of IT and Informatics, the Network Administrator is responsible
for maintaining the entire local area network, desire experience with
firewalls, routers, proxy servers, virtual private network, NT Servers and
Exchange Server, MAC OS and satellite Internet solutions. This
responsibility will encompass LAN WAN communications, network management in
a Windows NT environment with PC and Mac clients, setup and management of
client hardware, software, services, network backup and security, Intranet
and Internet applications over TCP/IP, staff training.

Qualifications and Experience:
The successful candidate will have a BSC degree in Computer Science, minimum
3 years experience of system administration with a broad range of hardware
and software systems and applications, including at least 2 years of Windows
NT administration experience in design, implementation, management and
supporting mixed PC, and Macintosh computing environments. Experience with
Intranet and Internet applications over TCP/IP in a MAC and NT/PC mixed
environment will be an added advantage.

Familiarity with UNIX, LINUX or Netware is helpful, good English and
communication skills, good organisation and interpersonal skills including
ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural and multidisciplinary
environment.

Terms and conditions:
The position is in the professional/national category, and carries a salary
package and benefits commensurate with the requirements.  An initial two
years contract will be offered.

Webmaster

The position:
ICIPE is seeking to fill the position of Webmaster.  Reporting to the Head
of IT and Informatics, the Webmaster works on assigned web-focused projects,
in very closed cooperation with the Information Services Unit, the Public
Relation Office, and various other individual projects, to develop/update
ICIPE's Homepage and other scientific web sites using audio, visuals, and
interactive features. This involves preparation of on-line web tutorials for
those departments/units/programmes or individuals wishing to develop their
own Web documents, and preparation of ICIPE Web document templates to guide
development and help users meet the required criteria.

Qualifications and Experience:
The successful candidate will have a BSC degree in Computer Science or
equivalent. Minimum 3 years experience with web authoring. Experience with
NT, MAC OS, SQL, WebObject and Cold Fusion required. Familiarity with C++,
Perl, Java, DHTML, VB and VRML desirable. Top level page layout with complex
tables, frames and page templates. An understanding of forms and CGI
scripting, Java, streaming video/audio and shockwave is helpful. Experience
with graphic design, editing/desktop publishing, database management, server
administration is a plus.

Ability to develop and test programmes, excellent English and communication
skills, good organisation, management and interpersonal skills including
ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural and multidisciplinary
environment.
