INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MANAGER
ICIPE is an intergovernmental organisation funded by governmental agencies,
UN organisations and private foundations to carry out research and training
into the environmentally sound and sustainable management of arthropods for
improving health and agricultural productivity in the tropics. ICIPE has
over 300 staff to support its research and capacity building programmes in
the management of medical, animal and plant disease vectors, plant pests,
and in the conservation and utilisation of arthropod biodiversity. Although
many of ICIPE's present activities are Africa centred, the organisation
intends to broader its pan-tropical base by greater collaboration in Asia
and Latin America.
ICIPE is seeking to fill the international position of Information
Technology (I.T.) Manager. Reporting to the Director of Research, the I.T.
manager develops a service unit for all computer and communication hardware
and software, new acquisitions, maintenance licensing and training to serve
Administration and Research.
Specifically the I.T. Manager has full knowledge of the MAC OS (9 and X
Server), Window NT and UNIX (Linux) environment as well as the major
software and hardware deployment on these operating systems. Regular
upgrading and maintenance of Local Area Network, Intranet and Internet
applications, Satellite Internet solutions are an integral part of this
Qualifications and Experience:
The successful candidate will have an MSC degree in Computer Science minimum
8 years experience with a broad range of hardware and software system and
applications, including at least 5 years experience in design
implementation, management and supporting mixed PC, UNIX and Macintosh
computing environments; in particular the MAC and NT, with LAN and internet
connection management experience will be an added advantage.
Familiarity with desktop publishing is helpful, ability to develop and test
programmes, excellent English and communication skills, familiarity with
French or other language desirable; good organisation, management and
interpersonal skills including ability to work effectively in a
cross-cultural and multidisciplinary environment.
Terms and conditions:
The position is in the professional/international category, and carries a
salary package and benefits commensurate with the requirements. An initial
two years contract will be offered.
