I have found replies to questionnaire posted to list very
I would have liked to see an elucidation of the thinking behind the top
3-5 of these.
I am surprised that climate change has received such a low priority from
most of the sub-scribers. It is of course a global issue but surely it
is a national issue also. It has the potential to impact on all almost
all of the other areas mentioned such as biodiversity, land usage, water
quality, even waste disposal as well as others areas not mentioned such
as coastal erosion and spread of disease. These have been outlined in
IPCC report, which led to Kyoto. Therefore I would think that part of
any of these studies should include a component on climate change i.e.
how these could be impacted by predicted climate change or even are
effects that may be linked to climate change observed in these areas.
Also as a nation we have signed up to the Kyoto agreement. As well as
the much-publicised reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, Kyoto also
contains a requirement for research and observations related to the
climate systems and the adverse impacts of climate change. Unless the
assumption is that climate change will benefit us all work should be
carried out in this area.
