University of Copenhagen

Assistant Professor in phycology with emphasis on molecular taxonomy

Applications are invited for the position as Assistant Professor at the
Department of Mycology and Phycology. The position is available from 1
January 1996. The position is a temporary position for 3 years.

Taxonomic research has high priority at the department, and morphological
as well as new genetical and biochemical methods are used in algal
systematics and phylogenetics. A well-equipped laboratory for molecular
studies has recently been established at the institute.
The Botanical Institute wants to develop and strengthen research in
molecular taxonomy of algae. The successful candidate will be attached to
the DNA-laboratory and collaborate with the phycological staff which
currently comprises 5 associate professors and 1 full professor. He/she
must be prepared to further develop the research area, and to initiate new
projects and related teaching.
Candidates should have a recent ph.d.-degree (normally max. 5 years old) or
equivalent qualifications and a proven research record in phycology based
on molecular techniques, preferably PCR-based DNA-techniques, for
phylogenetic, taxonomic andl/or biogeographical/ecological studies. It is
preferable if the applicant can document cooperation ability in scientific
groups and if he/she has a broad research experience from different
laboratories.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake both undergraduate
teaching in elementary phycology and postgraduate teaching. Foreign
applicants will be required to teach in Danish after two years.
The applicants' qualifications will be evaluated by a specially appointed
Committee, and the entire report of the Evaluation Committee will be sent
to all applicants. The Evaluation Committee may ask for supplementary
material, which the applicant then must provide in the requested number of
copies.
Appointments is made according to a contract as agreed between the Ministry
of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The
annual salary depends of seniority.
