The Kerfeunteun…that’s the actual spelling... is a suburb of the Breton town of Quimper, which is where I was when I wrote the tune. As to the meaning of Kerfeunteun
That’s fairly straightforward as well. The Ker bit is the Breton equivalent of baile in Irish, and occurs in very many Breton place names.
The feunteun is a Bretonisation of the French fontaine ( eng. fountain ) So, of particular relevance to those from Cork, it would be The Fountainstown Jig!
