        David Rankin in _Celts and the Classical World_ says that turning
native (sometimes Celtic) feasts into Augustan festivals was a policy of
Augustine's regime (except in Rome) as a means of acculturating the
conquered. Unfortunately, in this case, Rankin doesn't quote any sources to
support his statement. Does anyone on the list know of corroborating
evidence? Thanks!
