Lake Tovel (1178 m a.s.l., Italian Alps), located in a beautiful valley of
the Brenta Dolomites, is notorious for a reddening phenomenon due to
planktonic algae (dinoflagellates).

The Limnological Station of Lake Tovel (Field Station of the Museo
Tridentino di Scienze Naturali-MTSN), a well-equipped laboratory situated on
the shores of the Lake, is devoted to University students courses in several
disciplines: Limnology, geology, botany, zoology.

For summer 2009 the MTSN is organizing the following summer schools:
- from the 8th to the 12th of June: Introduzione allo studio delle diatomee
(in Italian);
- from the 5th to the 10th of July: Introduction to the study of
phytoplankton (in English);
- from the 20th to the 24th July: La fauna del suolo (in Italian);
- from the 27th to the 31st July: Summer school per operatori educativi di
